MWR Huachuca Highlights

Beginning May 15

-The next Right Arm Night is set to start at 4 p.m. May 19 at Thunder Mountain Activity Centre. The theme for this RAN is “Car/Bike Show.” Enjoy free finger foods, a pay-as-you-go bar, and win prizes in drawings and contests. Right Arm Night is free and open to all, including Soldiers, civilians, retirees and family members 18 and older. For more information, call 520-533-5642 or 520-678-4446.

-Family and MWR will observe Armed Forces Day by offering free or reduced-price services to Active Duty, family members and retired military at the following facilities: May 19, MWR Rents (533-6707) will offer half-price weekend rentals, and Thunder Mountain Activity Centre (533-3802/533-7322) will offer their lunch buffet at half price. May 20, the Arts and Crafts Center (533-2015/533-5550.) will offer free paint, instruction and firing; the Sportsman’s Center (533-7085) will offer free paintball field time, and The RAP (533-7085/732-9310) will offer free use of the batting cages; Desert Lanes (533-2849) will offer free bowling and shoes; Jeannie’s Diner (533-5759) will serve free food samples; Buffalo Corral (533-5220) will offer a free trail ride; and Mountain View Golf Course (533-7088) will offer free cart rental. All free services will be limited to available time and space to be determined by each facility, so early reservations are recommended.

-The MWR Arts & Crafts Center offers “Sip & Create” Friday or Saturday, May 19 and 20, 7-9:30 p.m. at the 19th Hole Lounge at Mountain View Golf Course. Cost is $35 per session, per person and includes the 16×20 canvas, paint, aprons and two beverages (wine, beer, soda or water), plus instructions from the artist-in-residence, to create an original piece of art. -FMWR will present a free Moonlight Movie, “Moana,” Saturday, May 20 at Warrior/Sentinel Field. The movie will start at dusk. Free popcorn, hot dogs, water and soft drinks will be provided, while supplies last. For more information, call 533-3354 or 266-0254.

-Child and Youth Services Youth Sports & Fitness is accepting registration for the 2017 Summer Futsal (Indoor Soccer) Program now through June 9 for youth ages 5-12. Cost of the program is $20 and practice begins around June 19 at the Middle School Teen Center Building 49013. A full CYS registration and a current sports physical are required to participate. -The Sportsman’s Center is now open Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Range 3 is open 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. both days. For more information, call 533-6707.

-Buffalo Corral Horseback Riding Stables holds two-hour, guided sunset trail rides every Friday. Exact time depends upon the season. Cost is $40 for Active Duty or $50 for civilians. -The MWR Arts & Crafts Center offers Pick-It-and-Paint Ceramics every Friday and Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Pick out a ready-to-paint cast ceramic piece and paint it any way you want. They have something for everyone–from dinosaurs to coffee cups. Costs vary depending on pieces selected. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. -Thunder Mountain Activity Centre’s lunch buffet is now served Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu features: Wednesdays, TMAC will be “Famous BBQ Ribs,” and other BBQ selections and sides–Just what you need to get over your mid-week hunger; Thursday features German food, with “Taste of the Rhine;” and Friday they offer the “Fried Fish and Chicken Friday” featuring hand-breaded cod and chicken. Cost of the lunch buffet is $9.95 for adults or $4.75 for children 5-11 years old. All buffets include salad bar, desserts, rolls and a non-alcoholic beverage. -Irwin Outdoor Pool will host “Splish Splash Family Day” Saturday, June 3 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. This event is free to all FMWR Patrons. Come out and enjoy a fun-filled day with free food, rock wall races, 3-legged races, Jumbo Jenga and much more! For more information, call 533-3858 or 533-3853.

-Everyone is invited to attend the 6th annual “An Evening on the Green” Jazz and Wine Festival June 3 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Brown Parade Field. Admission is free, and includes wine and beer tasting. Glasses and bottles of wine and beer will be available to purchase, and Thunder Mountain Activity Centre will offer food to purchase. Arts and craft vendors will also be available. -Fort Huachuca will host the 30th Annual All Army Boxing Championships at Barnes Field House, with preliminary bouts set for June 7 or 8 and championship bouts set for June 10. Doors open at 6 p.m. and bouts start at 7 p.m. Boxers from installations around the world, both male and female, will compete for a spot on the 2017 All Army Team. Admission is free to everyone. POST ACCESS: All patrons wishing to attend All Army Boxing must stop at the drive-through at either the Van Deman or the Buffalo Soldier Gate no earlier than 1 hour before the doors open at 6 p.m. and present a valid photo ID. -The coaches’ meeting for the 2017 Intramural Volleyball Program is set for June 7, 10 a.m. at Barnes Field House. All Letters of Intent are due by June 9, and team rosters are due June 21 and the program begins June 26 at 6 p.m. at Barnes Field House. -Sports, Fitness and Aquatics has set the 2017 Aquathlon for June 23, July 7 and July 21, 6 a.m. at Irwin Pool. The competition consists of a 300 yard swim (6 laps) and a 3-mile run, out and back. Two-person teams are allowed, with each person completing one of the two events. Team or individual Memorandums of Intent are due by e-mail two days before each event to cassandra.l.brown34.naf@mail.mil. Awards will be presented to the top 6 teams and the top 6 individuals. -Auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “Gulliver’s Travels” are scheduled for June 26 starting at 9 a.m. at Murr Community Center, Building 51301. Students from 1st through 12th grades are encouraged to sign up to audition beginning May 29, at Parent Central Services, also at Murr, 533-0738. Children must first be registered with Child, Youth and School Services and must pre-register for auditions. However, auditioning does not guarantee a part in the play.The MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week of June 26-30. More than 50 local students will be cast in the production to be presented on Saturday, July 1, 5 p.m. at Murr Community Center.
