“FMWR asks for your patience while we work with the new Marquees at Van Deman Gate and Irwin Street by the Thunder Mountain Activity Center. You may see blurry, or bright images as we work with connectivity and software issues, but we hope to have the marquees operational and delivering clear information to you soon.”
-Family and MWR is looking for food, arts and crafts, novelty and other vendors for the 2017 Fun Festival to be held Sept. 22, 23 and 24 at Veterans Memorial Park, Sierra Vista. For more information, call (520) 266-8033.
-The MWR Arts & Crafts Center offers “Sip & Create” Friday or Saturday, Aug. 18 and 19, 7-9:30 p.m. at the 19th Hole Lounge at Mountain View Golf Course. Cost is $35 per session, per person and includes the 16×20 canvas, paint, aprons and two beverages (wine, beer, soda or water), plus instructions from the artist-in-residence, to create an original piece of art. -FMWR will present a free Moonlight Movie, “Kong: Skull Island,” Rated PG-13. Saturday, Aug. 19 at Warrior/Sentinel Field. The movie will start at dusk. Free popcorn, hot dogs, water and soft drinks will be provided, while supplies last. For more information, call 533-3354 or 266-0254.
–Yardley Community Center, located across from Eifler Fitness Center in the former Yardley Dining Facility, is now open during the following hours: TICKET SALES, Monday- Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; OPEN REC, Monday-Wednesday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; SNACK BAR, Thursday TBA, Friday 5 p.m.-8:30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-8:30 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information, call 533-2404 or stop in at Building 80504, two doors from the Military Clothing Sales Store.
-From now through Sept. 4, Irwin Outdoor Pool is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday. For holidays and training holidays during that time, they are open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Barnes Indoor Pool Summer Hours: open only 5 a.m.-8 a.m., Mon.-Fri., for Lap Swim and PT. For more information, call 533-3853.
-Buffalo Corral Horseback Riding Stables now offers two-hour, guided sunset trail rides every Friday AND Saturday. Exact time depends upon the season. Cost is $45 for Active Duty or $55 for civilians. Reservations are required for all trail rides. -The new MI Coffee Kiosk, located in the MI Library, Bldg. 62723, is now open Mon. – Fri., 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. They offer a variety of “liquid energy,” such as lattes, tea, espresso, and of course, coffee, plus muffins, chips, Danish and other goodies. For more information, call 538-0345.
-The Sportsman’s Center is now open Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Range 3 is open 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. both days. For more information, call 533-6707/533-7085.
-The MWR batting cages, located off Hatfield across from the Mini Mall, are now operational and open to the public during daylight hours. (We are still working on a timer for the lights.) The cost is 4 quarters (25 cents) for 10 pitches. Users must bring quarters, since no change machine is available. Slow and fast pitch softball and baseball lanes are available. Helmets and bats are also available for free check out at MWR Rents, Bldg. 70914, Irwin Street. For more information, call 533-6707.
-The MWR Arts & Crafts Center offers Pick-It-and-Paint Ceramics every Friday and Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Pick out a ready-to-paint cast ceramic piece and paint it any way you want. They have something for everyone–from dinosaurs to coffee cups. Costs vary depending on pieces selected. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. -Thunder Mountain Activity Centre’s lunch buffet is now served Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu features: Wednesdays, TMAC will be “Famous BBQ Ribs,” and other BBQ selections and sides–Just what you need to get over your mid-week hunger; Thursday features German food, with “Taste of the Rhine;” and Friday they offer the “Fried Fish and Chicken Friday” featuring hand-breaded cod and chicken. Cost of the lunch buffet is $9.95 for adults or $4.75 for children 5-11 years old. All buffets include salad bar, desserts, rolls and a non-alcoholic beverage. –Desert Lanes presents “Galactic Strike Night” Saturday nights from 8-10 p.m. Cost is $8 per hour, per person for adults, or $4 per hour for kids 13 and under. This price includes unlimited bowling and shoe rental, and everyone is welcome! For more information, call 533-2849.
-Advance carnival tickets for the 2017 Fun Festival go on sale Sept. 1 at Yardley Community Center, Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista Safeway and Sierra Vista Ace Hardware. Buy early and save! The price is $9 for 10 tickets in advance. During the carnival, the cost will be $12 for 10 tickets. Wrist bands are also available at all locations, for the price of $22 per day. During the carnival, cost of wristbands will be $25 per day. The Festival is set for Sept. 22-23-24 at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Fry Boulevard, Sierra Vista. The festival is open to the public and there is no admission charge. There will be attractions for the entire family including carnival rides for all ages. For more ticket information, call 533-2404.
