MWR Huachuca Highlights

Beginning February 20

-In recognition of Military Saves Week 2017, Army Community Service will host a Financial Information Day Feb. 28 at Murr Community Center. This free event begins at 9 a.m. and will feature hour-long presentations on topics such as the new Blended Retirement System, the Basics of Investing, and Starting a Small Business. Saturday and Sunday, March 4 and 5, Family and MWR, the Sierra Vista Riding Club and Cochise College will host the Cochise College Rodeo at Wren Arena, Fort Huachuca. Gates open at noon and the rodeo will start at 1 p.m. both days. Sunday, Cowboy Church starts at 10 a.m. and Exceptional Rodeo starts at 10:30 a.m. The rodeo is open to the public and will feature saddle and bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping, team roping, bull riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. Active Duty military and children 6 and under will be admitted free. Advance tickets for the general public are on sale now for $6 at Yardley Community Center, Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista Safeway and at Cochise College, Sierra Vista and Douglas Campuses. -B.O.S.S. (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) will host an All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast March 4, 8 a.m.-noon at the Landmark Café, 400 W Fry Blvd., Sierra Vista. -The MWR Arts & Crafts Center offers “Sip & Create” Friday or Saturday, March 4, 17 and 18, 7-9:30 p.m. at the 19th Hole Lounge at Mountain View Golf Course. Cost is $35 per session, per person and includes the 16×20 canvas, paint, aprons and two beverages (wine, beer, soda or water), plus instructions from the artist-in-residence, to create an original piece of art. -Sports, Fitness and Aquatics will host an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course from March 13-16 at Barnes Pool. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday. Cost for the course is $150 per applicant, which includes a digital certificate that is valid for two years. Participants must attend all sessions. -Thunder Mountain Activity Centre’s lunch buffet is now served Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu features: Wednesdays, TMAC will be “Famous BBQ Ribs,” and other BBQ selections and sides–Just what you need to get over your mid-week hunger; Thursday features German food, with “Taste of the Rhine;” and Friday they offer the “Fried Fish and Chicken Friday” featuring hand-breaded cod and chicken. Cost of the lunch buffet is $9.95 for adults or $4.75 for children 5-11 years old. All buffets include salad bar, desserts, rolls and a non-alcoholic beverage. -Buffalo Corral Horseback Riding Stables holds two-hour, guided sunset trail rides every Friday. Exact time depends upon the season. Cost is $40 for Active Duty or $50 for civilians. -Desert Lanes presents “Galactic Strike Night” Saturday nights from 8-10 p.m. Cost is $8 per hour, per person for adults, or $4 per hour for kids 13 and under. This price includes unlimited bowling and shoe rental, and everyone is welcome! For more information, call 533-2849.

-Yardley Community Center invites all sports fans to come in and watch their favorite team on one of their 55 inch TVs. -Army Entertainment and MWR present the “Army Entertainment Comedy Tour” starring actor, writer, producer, comedian Jamie Kennedy, along with special guests Jay Phillips and Benji Brown, Saturday, March 18, 7-9 p.m. at Thunder Mountain Activity Centre. Tickets are on sale NOW at Yardley Community Center or TMAC, Fort Huachuca, and Ace Hardware, Sierra Vista, for $15 each. That price includes one free beverage of choice. -The Coaches’ Meetings for the 2017 Intramural Softball program are set for March 22 at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. at Barnes Field House. Letters of Intent are due March 24, and Team Rosters are due March 31.
