SKIESUnlimited is an Army Child, Youth and School (CYS) Services Program for instructional classes.  The name “SKIESUnlimited” combines the acronym for “Schools of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration and Skills” with the word “Unlimited” for the unlimited learning possibilities this Program offers to military children and youth.  SKIESUnlimited provides the framework or umbrella for all instructional programming in the CYS Services System worldwide.  SKIESUnlimited encompasses instructional programs for children and youth from six weeks through 18 years of age.

Young people spend as much as 80% of their waking time outside the classroom.  When involved in instructional programs during the critical hours of 1500 to 2000, they are less likely to engage in undesirable behavior.  Children and youth participate in instructional programs for a variety of reasons:  to explore new skills; pursue and nurture personal interests; interact socially with others; build a resume; bolster a college application; or foster a close relationship with caring, knowledgeable adults outside of the home. 

Instructional programs foster the development of critical life, leadership, and social skills.  The latest educational research confirms that students’ involvement in after-school instructional programs is beneficial on all levels.  Instructional programs have been shown to promote the intellectual development of children and youth. Current SKIESUnlimited Classes

The following Classes held at the Expanding Horizons Child Development Center, Bldg. # 49055, Cushing Street:

-CREATIVE HANDS Classes are offered on Tuesdays from 1530 to 1630, and Thursdays from 1430 to 1530 and 1530 to 1630, for children from 6 to 10 years of age at a fee of $40 per month for a 1-hour class. Students explore different creative art projects every month.

-TUTORING (for ages 6 to 13) Sessions for subjects such as Science, Math, Social Studies and English assistance are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1530 to 1630 for $80 per month for 8 classes.

-BRINGING STORIES TO LIFE Classes are held on Fridays from 0900-0945 and from 1000-1045 for children from 3 to 5 years of age at a fee of $15 per month (4 classes). This class is designed to promote literacy through storytelling and to introduce children to letters, numbers, colors, shapes, seasons and feelings.

-COMPUTER Classes are held Tuesdays from 1530-1630 for 6 to 10 year olds, and Thursdays, from 1530-1630 for 11 to 17 year olds. Cost is $40 per month for 4 classes. 

-COOKING Classes are held on Thursdays for children in the following age groups: from 1430-1530, “Food, Fun and Reading,” for ages 3 to 5 years; from 1530-1630, “Healthy Snacks,” for ages 6 to 10 years; and from 1630-1730, “Cooking Rocks,” for ages 11 and up. Fee is $30 per month (4 classes).

-PIANO Lessons are held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for all ages at the cost of $25 per month for semi-private lessons or $40 per month for private lessons.

-GYMNASTICS Classes are held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at various times for all ages and skill levels. The cost of $32 per month for 3 to 5 year olds for a 45 minute class or $36 per month for 5 to 18 year olds for a 1-hour class.

-TENNIS Lessons are held on Fridays at the Tennis Courts behind Barnes Field House from 1530 to 1630 for children/youth from 6 to 17 years of age for $35 per month.

-TAE KWON DO Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1830-1930 at the Family and MWR Rents Building #70914 for children ages 5 and up. Cost is $25 per student per month for 8 classes. This is a year ‘round, ongoing class that students can attend on a monthly basis.

-AMERICAN OKINAWAN KARATE ACADEMY Classes are held Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with times depending upon age and skill level, at the Family and MWR Rents Building #70914 for children ages 4 to 17. Cost is $25 per student per month for 8 classes.
